Soft-proofing for our printers
We get asked from time to time for the colour profiles we use for our printers. Although we open every digital file and hand-optimise it for the very best results with our photographic printers, some of our professional clients like the full control of seeing our printers available colour output on their colour calibrated monitors. For this reason we have made available a download of the ICC colour profile for our printer, allowing you to get an on-screen representation of our photographic printers output before you commit your files to us for print. Watch out for our blog posts explaining colour management and calibration in more depth. In the meantime, if you use Adobe software, a useful introduction to colour workflow can be found here.

Fun new Photech adverts
We just placed our fun new adverts in some of our favourite UK photography magazines. The theme is a series of very little kids with very big pro cameras, and the strapline “The Choice of Aspiring Professionals”.
We would love to know what you think!

Image of the Month April 2010

Image of the month goes to Eric Emerson for this fantastic image which he shot in Panaji, Goa recently. Eric asked us to print this image, and we thought it really stood out as an exceptional and colourful print. Eric wins the prize of a £20 voucher to spend on any of our digital, canvas or traditional printing services. Congratulations Eric on a wonderful image!
Eric made the image with a Canon 5D Mk2 with a EF 16-35mm L Lens at 35mm, f2.8, ISO 100. He made three hand held exposures at 1/30, 1/125, 1/500 sec, then combined them into a HDR image with Photomatix Pro, followed by some manipulations in CS4. Eric is a keen amateur enthusiast – when not taking photos he’s a Professor at Lancaster University & the University of Sydney. http://www.ericemerson.co.uk/
The Image of the Month is selected from the photographic prints we run through the lab and also from the images emailed to us for consideration. Send your best image to us and win a feature on the homepage of our website for a month, archived in our picture of the month gallery, a link back to your online gallery, and most importantly, win a £20 voucher!

Cibachrome printing replacement…
2010 is a transitional year for our traditional enlarging and Cibachrome printing services here at Photech. Due to the inevitable decline in demand for cibachrome printing from slide and transparency, we have decided to cease production late in 2010. Cibachrome prints will still be available up until this point.
Of course, we would not stop this service without having an great alternative to the traditional enlargement and cibachrome printing process.
A top quality reproduction scan will be taken from your transparency on one of our high end Imacon scanners. The image will then be optimised and printed onto Fujiflex, a superb high-gloss photographic material with the same polyester base as cibachrome. We will be offering prints using our ZBE Chromira printer. This is a state of the art photographic printing machine using patented L.E.D. technology to expose the image onto photographic material.
The end result is a jaw-dropping photographic print, as good, if not better than a cibachrome print – we are so confident you will be impressed with the results, if you don’t agree it’s a match for cibachrome prints, we will give you your money back!
The ZBE Chromira
Chromira photographs are ‘C prints’, a term often used in contemporary photography exhibitions and galleries. The Chromira is a Digital Photographic Enlarger that exposes traditional type C photographic paper. Unlike large format inkjet output, there are no inks used that can smudge or fade and there is no “dot pattern” as in other contemporary photography methods, giving an unparalleled quality of prints.
