Frequently asked questions

What image format do I need to print to a canvas?

Since canvas is a textured material, it’s relatively forgiving in source photo quality – we can usually achieve great results from most image formats, be that digital files, existing prints up to A4 size, slides and transparencies and film negatives. We can advise on the maximum canvas size we would recommend once we have seen your image(s).

What is the difference between your canvas and printed ones I can buy in the shops?

Our canvas’s are one-off artworks. We ensure the source photo is optimised for great print results, we use only the best printing inks and canvas, then hand-stretch the canvas over frames we make ourselves from high quality wood. It means the finished canvas is tough, wipeable and made to look great for years.

I would like my canvas in a different colours. Can you do this for me?

We offer a selection of special effects for canvas printing. As well as Black and White, we can Sepia tone your canvas, or make one colour stand out. This is simply a one-off £10 fee per canvas. Talk to us to discuss your ideas.

Do you do photo retouching on my image?

We offer a selection of advanced photographic effects with our canvas printing. We can add background blur or make one colour stand out, highlight single colours and even turn your photographs into a painted ‘posterized’ look. This also is just a one-off £10 fee of per canvas. Talk to us to discuss your ideas.

Are there different styles of canvas?

Yes, since our canvas’s are handmade, we can finish the artwork in different ways, to suit your taste or the photograph in question. We can wrap the image around the frame (shown below left) or leave a clean white border around the image (below right). Wrapping for example works well with landscape images and white sides works well with portraits. Plain sides can be white, black, grey, or any colour sampled from the image. We can advise you if you are not sure what will work best for your image.

Do you really make your own frames?

Each frame is constructed in-house specifically for your image. We use winter-cut finger jointed and laminated pine from Estonia, this gives the advantage of removing all knots and making the timber very strong and very straight.

Matthew Walker from Staffordshire says of our Canvasses:

I received the canvas and I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with the order! The quality of your prints has always been excellent but I’ve seen so many dull and lifeless canvas prints (I even own one!) that I thought that was just a characteristic of the material. Contrary to my preconception, your finished product looked amazing and the frame build quality is exceptional. It’s worth every penny! Thanks.
